When I was a child, birthdays were like second Christmases. They were another chance to scratch a toy off my “wish list” . . . and a birthday cake! As a teen, birthdays meant one year closer to dating and driving. Getting older meant the freedom of going to all the football games & hanging out afterwards, and going with friends to dances and parties. Birthdays were markers on the road to independence.
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.__2 Corinthians 10:12 NIV
Today, by faith, my birthday is a day of quiet confidence and calm expectation that the same God that brought water from the rocks in the wilderness (Exodus 17:6 and Numbers 20:9) delights to open the windows of heaven to those who depend on Him.
For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not.__Isaiah 30:15 KJV
Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.__ Exodus 17:6 KJV
So Moses took the staff from the Lord’s presence, just as he commanded him. He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff.
