The title “Is God In Everything?” is taken from a chapter of A Christian’s Secret To A Happy Life by Hannah Whitall Smith written in the late 1800’s. Please don’t let the date confound you; it is relevant and timeless. Mrs. Smith’s words were/are a balm to me and countless others when facing adversity. What a comfort it is to know that not one event that is in our lives has bypassed the loving eyes of God.
Mrs. Smith states that though trials and adversity may originate from an unloving act or sin, because God has allowed this , then we should see it as coming directly from God. This perspective focuses us on our loving father who ” consoles while he wounds.” Furthermore we have the assurance that no adversity or trial can touch us without God’s “purposeful” permission.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:28-29 KJV
Several years ago when I read A Christian’s Secret To A Happy Life , I was so comforted to know that my question was not a novel one and there existed evidence that it was one asked and answered over one hundred years earlier. This revelation was a catalyst that gave me the strength a to move forward from my adolescent Christianity on to the path of Christian maturity. I still remember where I was was when I read that chapter and how my heart lept at the revelation of the care that God has for me. . .. okay .. . us. (lol)
Well, that is what my blog is about— Finding God ” in everything.” The foundation of a happy Christian life is having a “joyful” perspective that surpasses circumstances. There is Joy in knowing the ways of God. Knowing that our Creator who sees the end from the beginning, has a plan for our lives that is specifically designed for each of us according to His purpose. Following Christ is not for the faint-hearted, It requires endurance→ which requires trust in → built on knowledge of the ways of God as revealed in His Word.
