from Saul to David

crown 1And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.  But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee__1 Samuel 13:13–14

David and Goliath

But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. .” __1 Samuel 16:7sword

So who is  this “ man after God’s own heart”? A man who was overlooked and underestimated__ by the Prophet Samuel, his own father and his brothers.  But David’s love for God rivaled Abraham’s obedience to God.    David was a man whose passion for his God  birthed songs, Psalms,  and  unsurpassed courage. David saw  God in everything .

David pursued God while being pursued by Saul in his madness. While enduring the wilderness, he still honored God and his King. David was man of passion, courage, honor, faith and humility.

David grew from a shepherd boy to Warrior King.    And David danced!  (2 Samuel 6:14)    David appreciated women__ smart women like Abigail and in his 007 blksin, beautiful women like Bathsheba.  Though He sinned greatly, David repented and had the faith to received God’s forgiveness.   (Can you tell that  I have a  kinda time-warped crush on David —or maybe his much, much, much younger brother. lol)

Mentally, I reject Michaelangelo’s stone image of David.  I hold David up to a modern day Christian 007TM  because men want to be like him and women want to be with him. lol
