Christmas Eve, a day of expectation

Another word for expectation, well positive expectation__ is Hope. Jesus is the Hope of the world given at His birth and our Hope fulfilled at His resurrection.

I can only imagine what Mary was thinking as she traveled on the eve of the birth of Jesus. How uncomfortable she must have been. No favorite place to rest as she journeyed to an unfamiliar place with no family other than her espoused, Joseph. Mary was about to give birth for the first time and to the Son of God, no less.  Mary’s courage and strength were as heaven-sent as her son, Emmanuel.

To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s Mary Josephname was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.__ Luke 1:27-28 KJV

Joseph too,  had to have a heart of obedience toward God and a trusting love for Mary to stay with her during this unexpected and SuperNatural  pregnancy.  Mary was highly favored.  Mary’s life and that of her Son, Jesus  the beloved Son of God show us that being highly favored of God can often create crisis with man.  But take heart  .  .   .

For with God nothing shall be impossible.  angel drawingAnd Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her. __ Luke 1: 37-38 KJV

As children of God and followers of Christ, we are called to have courage to believe in the Word that was given to us.  And like Mary, when we obey God__ with great expectation__ we can leave all the consequences to Him!

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.__Matthew 1:23 KJV

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.  And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. __Luke 1: 26-36KJV
