back to the well

John 4: 4 says of Jesus “And he must needs go through Samaria.” On His way to Galilee,  Jesus had a divine appointment.  He was intentional  in going to a city that many Jewish people avoided to meet a woman that avoided other people.  She visited the well in the heat of the day, outside of the traditional hours for drawing water and she met a man that told her all that she was.  (Read her story) No one can encounter Jesus and remain the same.

The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?__John 4: 28-29

How does that translate to the 21st century?  We have the internet, television, cell phones,  iPods, MP3 and dvd  players . These are great tools; but out of balance, they are distractions.   Or just as the Samaritan woman , sometimes relationships  become distractions.  Distractions compete for our time and attention and can leave us feeling dry and empty.  water tap

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.__ John 14: 26

Jesus left us the comforter, The Holy Spirit, as our guide in our Christian Walk.  He is with us moment by moment ,  just as Jesus was with His disciples.    The Holy Spirit is available 24/7 to meets us where we are and tells us all about “our situation.”  The Holy Spirit speaks to us because God is concerned about EVERYTHING that concerns us.   He gives wisdom to the confused; direction to the lost and rest to the weary.

With the help of the Holy Spirit, I  am  very deliberate in planning some quiet time to hear from God .  This isn’t a law but an option to forfeit a little comfort for some profitable time with The Comforter.   I am going back to the well . .  I’m thirsty.a toddler drinking water from a garden hose
