a new thing

God is ever-changing in His methods  but His character does not change.  God says  of himself in  Malachi 3 ” I change not.” God is a loving Father who is wise and generous. Wise enough to hold back some things (mercy) and the giver of all good things (grace).    Did you notice that those Wonder Twins are trying to pop up again? Lol

The Old Testament  reveals God’s character.  God provided water for the Israelites. Once, God told Moses to strike the rock. (Exodus 17:5-6) newA second time,    God told Moses to speak to the rock. (Numbers 20:7-8)

God provided safe passage across a body of water.  Exodus 14 reports that The Red Sea parted at the lifting of Moses’ staff.  newBut the Jordan River parted when the Israelites’ feet touched the water. (Joshua 3:11-13)

This  aspect of God is unsettlingly reassuring ; a paradox of sorts. When I don’t see the way, a resolution or even a viable option there is a great possibility that  in this instance, God is doing a newthing .  And it is reassuring  because God is faithful and  it will be done.

Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shdesert rockall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

I really like what Thomas Jefferson said, “If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”

Sometimes that “ newthing” is to wait on God for  His guidance, instruction, provision, healing . . . OR  it is to rest on God’s promise. Let’s not call waiting and resting  “twins”, let’s call them— cousins

Grace and Peace,
