I saw God today! He was in the sun that warmed my face and so powerful were His rays that I had to squint to see my way. God was in the smile of the cashier that checked me out. Heck, He was in my checking account providing for my needs. Hey, I wonder did anyone see God IN ME? I love this verse in James (v23-24):
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: or he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
Hearing the word of God and not acting upon it is like a man (or woman) who looks at her face in the mirror and forgets what he looks like. How straightforward is that? I think that James is my spiritual doppelganger! LOL Or maybe it’s that person at Nike that said “Just Do It!!”
I say “Please” and “Thank you” as a matter of habit . But recently, I have made a conscious decision to make eye contact with each person helping me to acknowledge their “personhood.” We all want to be acknowledged. We want someone to “see” us. Now I am not ready to put a “Jesus Fish” (aka ichthus) on my car because there may be just a remnant of that assertive driver lurking deep deep down inside me and I really don’t want to shame my Father. lol . . . Which brings me to my point,
From my late grandmother I learned two Biblical principles. The first is that Jesus commands us to “do unto to others as your would have them do unto you,” She would always stress “have” . I think that she could see that this concept was a challenge for me. LOL I tried to follow then and I think that I am better at it today.
The other principle she taught me was that “God sees all.” Being a very literal person, the thought of God always watching kept me from some potentially shameful acts . . . . well . . . . at least for a while. lol But how awesome is our God who not only sees us but counts the hairs on our head!
I think I will camp out on that for a while . . . God sees me.!!!!! (And you too!)
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.__ Matthew 22: 37-40
